San Diego is hot as hell and the high temperatures are here for at least another week. Just looking at the thick sweaters and corduroy in stores makes my clients sweat. The struggle is real, and the supply of summer clothing is dangerously low, but there are options. Here is where you can buy summer clothing in fall…
I adore J.Crew for their trustworthy fits, timeless style, and decent prices. I also love that J.Crew still has lots of summer clothing online from short sleeve shirts and t-shirts to different length shorts. In store, their sale rack is filled with summer clothing. Although sizes are hard to come by, they can order the right size for you.
Thank goodness short sleeve t-shirts are sold year round by most stores. Below is a list of some tried and true solid-colored, short-sleeve Tees, but I do love James Perse light-weight long sleeve Tees for this time of year. You can still get a fall look without heat stroke. Push up the sleeves and you’re good to go.
- J.Crew T-Shirts
- Travis Mathew V-neck T-shirts
- The Rail V-Neck T-shirts (fantastic color selection)
- James Perse Crewneck T-shirts (fantastic color selection)
Rhone is a newer men’s athletic clothing line that is still selling their short sleeve shirts and athletic shorts. My clients are loving Rhone’s clean aesthetics, comfortable fabrics, and “Anti-Stink” technology. One client couldn’t get over the lack of smell. They have free shipping, free returns, and sizes can go up to a XXXL.
Note: Rhone’s silver tech no-show socks are a favorite.
Short Sleeve Graphic T-Shirts
For you lean or petite men, Topman still has a handful of graphic t-shirts available. During warm weather wear them by themselves with shorts or jeans, but come fall, they will look fun under zip-up sweaters. I especially love their blue brush print t-shirt, the ‘Dream’ graphic tee, and the Dash Print Crewneck T-shirt (pictured above).
Ag ‘Griffin’ shorts are sold most of the year in-store and online at Nordstrom.com. The fit works for most men, including those over 6-feet. For petite men, we simply hem them. Besides the versatile fit, I love the subtle worn in look of them. It looks like a sharp pair of shorts instead of a pair of pants that got chopped at the knee. Lastly, the colors are classic and versatile.
Summer Specialty Brands & Stores
There are some stores and brands that know San Diegans need their shorts and tees year round. Surf brands like O’neill and summer stores like Sun Diego will be your best bet for finding warm weather clothing this fall in a physical store versus online. I also recommend hitting up boutiques in your nearby beach community.
Zappos has a fantastic selection of summer shoes as well as summer clothing in fall and winter. With a 365 day return policy and incredibly customer service, that makes Zappos my go-to for out of season shopping.
Short Sleeve Button-Front Shirts
Ted Baker and 1901 comes to the rescue for those looking for fun short-sleeve button-front shirts in this hot weather. For lean and petite men Topman also has a large supply of short-sleeve button-front shirts.
Consider yourself lucky that Gap still has a pair of light-weight shorts in numerous sizes. These will keep you cool through this heatwave and are very hard to come by right now.
